Retrofitting a refillable gas bottle in a motorhome - what you should know beforehand

Refillable gas bottles can be easily retrofitted in almost any leisure vehicle, regardless of whether it's a motorhome, van or caravan. Although you don't have to be a gas specialist to install a refillable gas bottle, it is still advisable to have gas bottles installed by a specialist company.

Who installs refillable gas bottles in motorhomes?

The installation of a refillable gas bottle in a motorhome is usually carried out by a specialist company. Even if some campers install a refillable gas bottle themselves, the manufacturers CAMPKO® & Alugas recommend having the gas tank bottle installed by a specialist company.

Specialist companies have a lot of experience in retrofitting refillable gas bottles and know exactly which regulations and safety regulations must be observed. Particularly in view of the fact that incorrect installation can lead to the loss of insurance cover.

In addition, after the installation of LPG tanks that are approved according to ECE-R67, a TÜV approval according to § 21 StVZO is required in the vehicle documents.

How much does it cost to install a refillable gas bottle?

The cost of installing a refillable gas bottle in a motorhome depends on many different factors. First of all, there are price differences between the various materials such as steel, aluminum or composite. In addition, it depends on the size of the refillable gas cylinder, the system (1 or 2 cylinder system) and the size of the refillable gas cylinder set.

As a rough guide for the installation costs of a refillable gas bottle, you can expect to pay between €1,500 and €4,000.
