The advantage of ALUGAS cylinders over conventional gas cylinders is their lower weight. While a full 11 kg steel cylinder weighs around 21 kg, a full ALUGAS cylinder weighs only around 16 kg. The actual weight may vary depending on the gas mixture (propane/butane).
The lower weight not only makes it easier to carry the cylinder, but also saves a few kilos on the payload, which is particularly advantageous when travelling with a motorhome.
ALUGAS cylinders weigh about half as much as conventional steel cylinders. This difference in weight is due to the material (aluminium) of the cylinder. The empty weight of an 11 kg gas cylinder is only 5.4 kg, and the weight of a 6 kg cylinder is only 3.7 kg. It should be noted that the contents are 20 % higher than those of 5 kg steel cylinders.
Customers often refer to aluminium gas cylinders as extremely light gas cylinders because the difference in weight compared to steel seems noticeably greater.
| Aluminium gas 6kg | Steel 5kg | Aluminium gas 11kg | Steel 11kg |
Weight empty in kg | 4 | 7 | 5,4 | 10,1 |
Weight filled in kg | 10 | 11 | 16,9 | 21,1 |
No, there are no 33kg gas cylinders from ALUGAS, but there is a so-called TravelMate gas tank cylinder for self-filling in motorhomes. This has a volume of 33.3 litres, which corresponds to a net filling volume of 14kg. You can find more information about the TravelMate refuelling cylinders here.
