The question of which is better is always a question of taste and depends entirely on the user which manufacturer he prefers. Dekalin offers a wider range of products. Sika has a more compact range, but with the new products Sikaflex 522, Sikaflex 554 and the new Lastomer 514, it now has some new products on the market.

There is no clear boundary between adhesives and sealants. All Dekasyl products can be used for both bonding and sealing.

Which is better Dekaseal or Sikaflex?
Dekaseal 8936 is a better product than Sika Lastomer 710: it has a higher viscosity, is very easy and quick to blot and has a lower water vapor permeability. It also pulls fewer threads when applied. However, Sika has launched a new product on the market: Lastomer 514. Lastomer 514 is equivalent to Dekaseal 8936.
Which Dekaseal for what?
Dekaseal 8936 is only for applications where mechanical fasteners (such as screws) are also used. Examples: Service hatch, lights, socket, skylight etc.

Dekaseal 1512 can be used as a general sealant. It can be used, for example, for skylights, hole penetrations in the floor, general sealing in the floor or for placing side walls on the floor.

What is Dekaseal 8936?
Dekaseal 8936 is a self-swabbing sealant based on so-called polyisobutene (similar to butyl). Polyisobutene-based sealants have the lowest water vapor permeability and are therefore excellent for sealing structures that are also mechanically fastened and for preventing water leaks.
How long does Dekaseal 8936 need to dry?
Dekaseal 8936 can be removed immediately after application. However, it is recommended to wait 1-2 hours because more solvent will have reducer. It dries only by evaporation of the solvent. However, the vehicle can be moved again immediately after applying Dekaseal.

At least 2 years.
When should Dekaseal be dabbed off?
Dekaseal 8936 can be dabbed off for applications that are also mechanically attached in the visible area, e.g. side panels. It is advisable to first cut or push with a plastic card or knife next to the application so that no Dekaseal is removed from under the joint when dabbing.

For a 40x40 roof window you need about 220 ml Dekaseal. Care should be taken to use enough Dekaseal. In addition, the part should be squeezed out after use to ensure that it is completely sealed and watertight.
