MPP solar controller for high-quality motorhomes, caravans and boats. Votronic solar controllers of the "MPP" (Maximum Power Point) series with "IU1oU2" charging characteristic are connected as a link between solar panel(s) and battery(ies). With MPP technology, the controller automatically determines the maximum power output (MPP) of the solar modules several times per second. It then transforms the excess voltage of the solar module into a higher charging current for the battery (realised by high-frequency switching regulator technology with high efficiency). This additional charging current ensures shorter charging times and the best possible power utilisation of the solar system. The MPP solar controllers operate fully automatically, are maintenance-free and offer the following functions:

  • MPP charging current increase of 10 % to 30 % (efficiency > 95 %) compared to conventional controllers thanks to the use of state-of-the-art controller technology (microprocessor). The increase in performance is particularly noticeable at cooler times of the year and e.g. during high fog conditions, low and diffuse lighting (wintering).
  • For charging lead-gel, lead-AGM, lead-acid batteries or LiFePO4 complete batteries (with integrated BMS, balancing, safety circuit and approval!) of the specified nominal voltages and the co-supply of consumers connected to these batteries in permanently installed systems with the specified battery capacities and charging programmes.
  • The charging voltage is free of peaks and regulated in such a way that overcharging of the batteries is ruled out.
  • Two battery charging outputs: Automatic charging of the main supply on-board battery (BORD I) as well as support charging and charge retention (max. 1 A) of the vehicle starter battery (Start II) with protection against overcharging.
  • Monitoring-free charging: Standard protection against overload, overheating, reverse polarity and battery reverse discharge (if solar power is too low, e.g. at dusk, at night, etc.).
  • Parallel/buffer operation: Compliance with charging regulations even when loads are operated simultaneously.
  • Overcharge protection: Regulates the charging current of the battery back if there is too much solar power and the battery is full, ensures the highest possible state of charge of the battery by immediately recharging when power is consumed.
  • "IU1oU2" charging characteristic: Defined charging voltage increase (U1) prevents harmful acid stratification (lead) and ensures equalisation charging of the individual battery cells (lead and lithium), followed by automatic trickle charging (U2).
  • Charging cable compensation: Voltage losses on the charging cables are automatically equalised.
  • On-board power supply filter: problem-free parallel operation with wind and motor generators, mains chargers, dynamos, etc.
  • CI bus connection: for displaying all relevant data on a central vehicle display
  • Measurement output for EBL, possibly existing electrical block in the living area of the vehicle: Enables the convenient use of a (solar) current display built into the electrical block to check the solar system.
    Please check the compatibility of your Schaudt electrical block (EBL) and the corresponding control and display panel in advance, as we cannot accept any liability for this.
  • Switching output "AES" (only MPP 260 CI, MPP 360 CI and MPP 440 CI): Causes refrigerators with "AES" (Automatic Energy Selector, Electrolux / Dometic) to switch automatically from gas to 12 V operation if there is a permanent abundance of excess solar power.
  • Connection for battery temperature sensor (art. no. 2001): In the case of lead batteries, the charging voltage is automatically adjusted to the battery temperature, resulting in a better full charge of the weaker battery in cold weather and avoiding unnecessary battery gassing and stress in summer temperatures.
    LiFePO4 batteries: Battery protection at high and especially low temperatures, highly recommended if the battery temperature can fall below 0°C during operation.
  • Ready to plug in for connection of the Votronic LCD Solar Computer S solar display units for optimum control of the system.

Note:Please note that the solar charge controller may only be used with solar panels up to the maximum power rating (Wp) and below the maximum permissible voltage (Voc). Furthermore, the controller is not suitable for an input-side connection (+/- solar panels) of wind, water, fuel or motor generators, power supply units, batteries or other power sources.

7. all applicable regulations and standards must be observed when installing the solar controller.

8. the solar controller must not be repaired or modified unless it is done by qualified personnel and original spare parts are used.

9. the solar controller must not be overloaded, as this can lead to damage to the controller and the battery system.

10. read the operating instructions carefully before commissioning the solar controller and follow all instructions.
