LPG reducers for autogas systems – BRC, KME, Landi Renzo

LPG reducers for autogas systems are available from HybridSupply from around 20 manufacturers, including BRC, KME, Landi Renzo, Lovato, Prins, Tomasetto and Zavoli, in power classes from 20 kW to 370 kW. Alongside retrofit reducers (vaporisers) for sequential and Venturi systems, the range covers OEM versions for factory-fitted LPG vehicles and reducers for forklifts – aimed at conversion centres, workshops and autogas dealers.

LPG reducers by manufacturer and power

The kilowatt rating of a reducer refers to engine power and should be treated as an upper limit; the product data of several reducers point out that low outside temperatures reduce their efficiency. The table lists the series in the range with the ratings taken from product names and data.

Selection criteria: connections, pressure and version

  • Gas inlet: usually M10x1 for 6 mm pipe or M12x1 for 8 mm pipe. KME supplies the Silver S6 with a 6 mm and the Silver S8 with an 8 mm shut-off valve; Landi Renzo the Li10 Turbo with M10x1 and the Li10 Oversize with M12x1.
  • Outlet pressure: fixed, as on the OMVL CPR (1.2 bar) and CPR Linx (1.4 bar), stepped, as on the BRC Genius MB (800, 1200 or 1500 mbar), or variable from 0.8 to 1.9 bar, as on the KME Silver S6 and Extreme. According to its product data, the Prins eVP 500 works without a diaphragm and its pressure is set via software.
  • Water and gas connections: versions differ in material – the BRC Genius MB comes with plastic or brass water connections – and in gas outlet diameter, for example 10 or 12 mm. Individual connections are listed under Accessories.
  • MAP connection: for turbocharged engines, the Prins VSI product description recommends a reducer with MAP sensor; on naturally aspirated engines the port stays open and acts as a vent.
  • Scope of delivery: the AC R01 comes with shut-off valve and fitting kit, while the BRC Genius Max 3.0 is supplied without water temperature sensor – matching water temperature sensors are in the electronics range.
  • OEM versions: Landi Renzo Li10 and Li18 for factory-fitted LPG models, according to the product data including the Dacia Sandero, Logan and Duster with D4F, K7M, K4M and H4D engines as well as Fiat, Alfa Romeo and Lancia models. The GFI SGI 6001 is a Renault OEM reducer with SAGEM sensor.
  • Special applications: Lovato RGE and Stargas Type E for Venturi systems, Lovato RGV with vacuum connection for carburettor engines, IMPCO model EB for forklifts and the Tomasetto AT10 Moto.
  • Approval: every LPG reducer needs type approval to UN ECE Regulation No. 67-01; the approval number is marked on the reducer and given in the product data – E13 67R-01 0254 on the BRC Genius Max 3.0, for example.

Spare parts, repair and documentation

To overhaul existing reducers, there are repair kits by manufacturer and series, solenoid coils and cores for the shut-off valve and liquid phase filter inserts. How an LPG reducer works, how workshops recognise a fault and when a repair pays off is explained in the blog article LPG Reducer: How It Works, Fault Symptoms and Repair. The product pages of the Tomasetto AT09 Nordic and AT13 XP offer quick guides in English, Italian and Spanish.

Conversion centres, workshops and dealers order reducers through a business customer account, which also shows the net prices. Private customers looking for a replacement reducer are given the details of a trade partner and a fitting workshop via the contact form.

Frequently asked questions about LPG reducers

How long does an LPG reducer last?

Manufacturers do not state a fixed service life, but they do specify maintenance intervals. For the LI10, Landi Renzo specifies a check of pressure regulation and tightness every 20,000 km and a full overhaul with new diaphragms and seals at 80,000 km; the liquid phase filter is replaced at the same interval. Contaminated gas and a reducer that is incorrectly connected to the coolant circuit shorten its life.

What pressure does an LPG reducer deliver, and how is it adjusted?

Depending on the model, LPG reducers deliver a working pressure of roughly 0.8 to 1.9 bar – for example 1.2 bar on the OMVL CPR, 1.4 bar on the Zavoli Zeta S and 1.5 bar on the BRC Genius Max 3.0. Some models have a fixed setting, the BRC Genius MB comes in pressure steps, KME reducers are variable and the Prins eVP 500 is set via software. The setting belongs in a workshop and follows the values specified by the system manufacturer.
