When it comes to sealing and bonding on vehicles, people often say: “Just use Sika”. This usually refers to the all-rounder Sikaflex-221, which has been recognised for many years as a highly reliable sealant and adhesive from Sika – and for good reason.
What is Sikaflex-621?
With Sikaflex-621, Sika is expanding this tried-and-tested concept to include a modern alternative that offers new advantages, particularly when it comes to application. The name alone suggests that this is a product closely related to the classic Sikaflex-221 – just with a different designation. Just like Sikaflex-221, Sikaflex-621 is a versatile adhesive and sealant for numerous applications in automotive engineering. Both ensure reliable bonds and permanently elastic seals, making them an excellent choice for a wide variety of projects in the automotive sector or relating to camping and caravan vehicles.
How does Sikaflex 621 differ from Sikaflex 221?
The formulation of the popular Sikaflex-221 has been fundamentally revised for Sikaflex-621. The result: the new Sikaflex-621 ensures improved occupational safety thanks to a material technology with reduced harmful substances. Sika intends this product for experienced users. The possible applications of the two products are similar; however, suitability for a specific application must be checked. Naturally, the two products are not entirely identical; differences exist, for example, in skin formation time and mechanical properties. Is Sikaflex-221 still available, and what should be borne in mind when using it?
The new Sikaflex-621 does not mean we are saying goodbye to the well-known Sikaflex-221: this classic product remains part of the Sika portfolio. However, please note that, as of 24 August 2023, specialised training is mandatory for commercial and industrial use. Further information on this is available on the Sika website. Anyone who successfully completes the online training course linked there, which is appropriate for the relevant application, will receive a certificate that is valid for 5 years and documents the required training for the correct application of products such as Sikaflex 221. This documents the required qualification and can be presented during an inspection by the employers’ liability insurance association.
Sikaflex-221 therefore remains a good choice for the future and now has a modern, versatile alternative at its side in the form of Sikaflex-621.
