Central African Republic: 242,500 children immunised

Children in the Central African Republic are particularly at risk of contracting or even dying from diseases such as measles, polio or diphtheria. According to the World Health Organisation, only 16% of children had received all the necessary vaccinations in 2024, while 34% had never been vaccinated. In cooperation with the local health authorities, DOCTORS WITHOUT BORDERS vaccinated around 242,500 children in 2024. The teams used motorbikes and pirogues to reach remote regions where children would otherwise remain unvaccinated. The immunisations not only protect the children, but also help to prevent dangerous outbreaks of disease. After years of violence, there are far too few health facilities in the Central African Republic, and people often have to travel long distances for treatment.
