ALUGAS gas cylinders from the manufacturer Alugas are becoming increasingly popular. The advantage of ALUGAS cylinders over conventional gas cylinders is their lower weight.
While a full 11 kg steel cylinder weighs around 21 kg, a full ALUGAS cylinder weighs only around 16 kg. The actual weight may vary depending on the gas mixture (propane/butane). The lower weight not only makes it easier to carry the cylinder, but also saves a few kilos on the payload, which is particularly advantageous when traveling with a motorhome.
How heavy is an ALUGAS cylinder?
ALUGAS cylinders weigh about half as much as conventional steel cylinders. This difference in weight is due to the material (aluminum) of the cylinder. The empty weight of an 11 kg gas cylinder is only 5.4 kg, and the weight of a 6 kg cylinder is only 3.7 kg. It should be noted that the content is 20 % higher compared to 5 kg steel cylinders.
Alugas cylinders are often described by customers as extremely light gas cylinders because the difference in weight compared to steel seems noticeably large.
Weight (kg) | Alugas 6kg | Steel 5kg | Alugas 11kg | Steel 11kg |
---|---|---|---|---|
Empty | 4 | 7 | 5,4 | 10,1 |
Filled | 10 | 11 | 16,9 | 21,1 |
Is there an Alugas 33kg cylinder?
No, there are no 33kg gas bottles from ALUGAS, but there is a so-called TRAVELMate refillable gas bottle for self-filling in motorhomes. This has a volume of 33.3 liters, which corresponds to a net filling volume of 14 kg. You can find more information about the TRAVELMate refillable gas cylinders here.
