What are refillable gas bottles?
Refillable gas bottles have a special, advanced safety valve with an 80% fill-stop function that prevents the gas bottle from overfilling. The refillable gas bottle therefore no longer needs to be replaced like conventional 5kg & 11kg gas bottles, but can be refuelled or refilled at any time - it is refillable.
For this reason, it offers its user more flexibility and freedom, especially as a camping gas cylinder, for barbecues or as a CamperGas refillable gas cylinder for permanent installation in a motorhome or camper.
Refillable gas bottles in motorhomes are mounted in the gas locker with a sturdy gas cylinder stand on the rear wall of the gas locker. To enable refuelling with gas, an additional CamperGas LPG filling valve for motorhomes is mounted on the outside of the bodywork. The refillable gas bottles can be refuelled at any LPG filling station via the CamperGas filling point.

Alugas refillable gas cylinders
The aluminium gas cylinder from Alugas is probably one of the best-known refillable gas cylinders. The Alugas Travel Mate refillable gas cylinder is characterised by its high-quality workmanship and is one of the lightest LPG gas cylinders on the market. Especially for permanent installation in the motorhome gas locker, the aluminium gas cylinder offers the advantage of a removable cylinder collar for more convenient and space-saving installation. The safety valve of the aluminium gas bottle has a mechanical gas level indicator so that the gas level can be read directly on the gas bottle. The mechanical indicator is not particularly precise and should be regarded as an indicator of whether the gas cylinder is full, half empty or empty.
The Alugas refillable gas bottle is CE certified and is subject to a 10-year gas tank test by TÜV.
CAMPKO composite refillable gas bottle
The CAMPKO composite refillable gas bottle is available with OPD and multivalves. Both valves have an 80% fill-stop function. The multivalve version also has a mechanical gas level indicator and two separate connections for refuelling and gas withdrawal. The composite refillable gas bottle is the lightest gas bottle in terms of weight, but does not have a removable collar. It is often used as a portable cylinder in the leisure or camper gas sector.
CAMPKO steel refillable gas bottle
The steel refillable gas bottle is a real heavyweight with its high safety standard. The weight of the CAMPKO steel refillable gas cylinder is higher compared to aluminium gas or the composite refillable gas cylinder, but it is the only one that meets the high ECE 67R-01 standard from the automotive sector. Refillable gas bottles and camper propane tanks with ECE 67R-01 homologation are not subject to a 10-year TÜV test period and fulfil the highest safety standard.
The cylinder collar is removable, but in most cases the open design of the cylinder collar offers enough space to fit a gas regulator or a Drehmeister gas cylinder filter even when mounted. The CAMPKO refillable gas bottle also has a mechanical gas level indicator on the valve and, due to its material, is compatible with all external gas level indicators from Rotarex, Mopeka, Gaslevel and GOK.
CONCLUSIONS:
If the weight of the refillable gas cylinder is not a decisive criterion, then the steel variant is the best solution. It is economically superior to composite and aluminium gas in terms of price, offers the user a higher safety standard and does not have a 10-year test period.
