Mopeka Pro operating instructions

Anyone holding a Mopeka pro in their hand for the first time and trying to set it up may encounter one or two problems. The app, which is completely in English, is actually quite simple once you know how it works. To get you started easily, here is a step-by-step guide.

Global settings

Green "SYNC" button: To connect the Mopeka pro to the app.
Black "VENT": Even if it looks like a button, it is not. This is a vent to prevent condensation from getting into the sensor.
Back:
Two silver magnets. A black rubber between them. This must not be removed.
First download the "Mopeka TankCheck" app. This is available for smartphones and tablets.

Set up Mopeka TankCheck

1. after downloading, the app will open and you will see the screen opposite. This appears if no devices are connected yet.

Buy Sensors - Buy sensors
Help Page - Help page

Notifications - Notifications: Allows a notification to be displayed when the tank level falls below the alarm setting. Alarms are set individually for each sensor.
Upload Sensor Data - Upload sensor data: Allows tank data to be uploaded to the Mopeka cloud so that the data can be retrieved from the cloud when the sensor is not within range of the phone. The Wifi bridge is required for this.

Device search filter: Enables sensors to be filtered according to the methods shown under sorting specifications.
Forget all Devices - Forget all devices: Removes all devices from the app
2. an account can be created by clicking on the account icon at the top left. This allows sensor data to be uploaded to the Mopeka cloud. It is also required if a Mopeka Bridge is to be used.
3. next, press the green SYNC button on the Mopeka Pro. The Mopeka Pro will now connect to the smartphone or tablet.

Important! A Bluetooth connection is required for this. If no connection is established, press "Start Scan" again in the app.
4. the added Mopeka should now be visible in the app.

If additional devices are synchronized, the list is automatically expanded. There is no limit to the number of sensors that can be added. However, some devices may slow down if a large number of sensors (>20) are connected.

Attach Mopeka Pro

The next step is to attach the sensor under the gas cylinder. Make absolutely sure that the bottle is clean where the sensor is to be placed.
If necessary, wipe it clean again with a cloth. If you wish, you can now apply the contact gel to the sensor (the black dot). As the sensor is magnetic, it is simply pressed onto the bottle and holds by itself. Provided it is a steel bottle. A holding frame is required for aluminum bottles.

Device settings

Filter Sensors... - Device search filter: Here you can search for specific devices using the device filter field. For example, if the gas cylinders are called "left cylinder" and "right cylinder", you can search for the "left cylinder" by entering "left" and only the devices that match the name will be displayed.
If a sensor is selected from the list, an individual view for the sensor is displayed. At the top is the menu bar with the following items:
Battery: The battery indicator shows the remaining battery voltage of the sensor.
Signal: The radio signal indicator shows the relative Bluetooth radio strength of the sensor to the phone/tablet.
Quality: The quality indicator (3-star scale) is used to understand whether the sensor's ultrasonic measurement system is working correctly. If the quality is low (1 star or less), the sensor is typically poorly mounted: poorly positioned on the center bottom of the tank, has dirt on the tank in front of the rubber pad that affects performance, or lacks sufficient sonic grease. It is therefore important to check the quality, especially during the initial installation and set-up. With a correct installation and a quality of at least 2 stars, a change is usually not necessary unless the tank is disturbed so that it no longer stands upright and level on the center bottom of the tank, has dirt on the tank in front of the rubber pad that affects performance, or lacks sufficient sonic grease. It is therefore important to check the quality, especially during the initial installation and set-up. With a correct installation and a quality of at least 2 stars, replacement is usually not necessary unless the tank becomes so disturbed that it is no longer upright and level.

Sensor Type: Which product is being used.
Update Rate - Update rateDevice Address - Device address

The update rate is the interval between each wireless transmission of the sensor's tank data via Bluetooth. It has an effect on the battery life. However, it is configurable and can be set to a lower rate to increase battery life.

For standard sensors, press and hold the synchronization button on the sensor to switch between 2 options for the update rate. The update rate displayed in the app will change when toggled.

For Pro sensors, click on the settings icon to set the refresh rate.

Sensor position

Under Sensor position, you can check whether the sensor is in the correct position. The green dot should be in the circle.

The Pro sensors have an internal accelerometer that can be used during installation to understand when the sensor is correctly aligned with the horizon. It works in a similar way to a spirit level app. The green dot in the two graphics should be centered between the respective lines. The more precise the alignment here, the more precise the measurement result from the sensor will be in the end.

Firmware

Pro sensors also have an update function with which Mopeka can provide software updates for the sensor. This feature keeps the sensor up to date with any ongoing continuous improvements. Follow the on-screen instructions to install updates.

Settings

Now come the settings. Simply click the cogwheel at the top right.

Device Name: If there are several bottles, they can be labeled with "Bottle left" and "Bottle right", for example.

Tank Size: As the size of the bottles in Germany is unfortunately not stored in the app, individual dimensions must be entered here. An individual size can be specified here with "Arbitrary". Other Europe should be selected as the region.

The alarm threshold is configurable so that you can determine when you want to be notified of a low fill level. For example, at 30% full.

The update rate can also be set here.

To do this, measure the gas cylinder once with a folding rule. From the very bottom to the top (without handles/lid). In other words, exactly where the gas filling is. In the picture, for example, this is 48 cm. These 48cm now correspond to 100% of the tank. As the tank should only be filled to 80% so that the gas can expand at higher temperatures, you now need to calculate.

48cm = 100%
38.4cm = 80%

These 38cm are now entered in the app.

Add CAMPKO refillable gas bottles
Mopeka Pro for CAMPKO refillable gas bottles - correct parameters for the setting

Height (total incl. collar)Gross volume
388mm15 liters
488mm22 liters
588mm30 liters
688mm36 liters

Add Alugas refillable gas bottles
Mopeka Pro for Alugas refillable gas bottles - Correct parameters for commissioning

Height (total incl. collar)Gross volume
597mm27.2 liters
688mm33.3 liters

Now you can see on the screen that the bottles are well adjusted. The fill level can be called up at any time via the app.

It is possible that the WLAN symbol, which shows the Bluetooth signal strength, changes to a cloud symbol. This happens when the sensor and phone are not within Bluetooth range AND the option to upload sensor data is activated in the global settings OR when a Mopeka Bridge is used, which continuously uploads the tank data to the Mopeka Cloud.
To remove a device from the app, simply swipe from right to left on the respective device and click on the red "Delete" area. The respective sensor is then deleted.

Change battery

To change the battery in the Mopeka, the front cover cap must be removed. This can be done very easily and carefully with a screwdriver. The battery can now be replaced and the cover cap refitted. It is important that both arrows on the housing point towards each other.

A CR20232 battery is required for the Mopeka.

Mopeka pro monitor

We also have a Mopeka LCD monitor. This can easily be connected to 2 Mopeka Pro devices. This eliminates the need for a smartphone or tablet.
